Pues he estado intentando encontrar a algún periodista que pueda ir mañana pero he tenido poco exito, de todas formas voy a empezar a mover el tema con la prensa britanica, a ver si un poco de mala publicidad internacional ayuda a mover las cosas un poco por aqui. Este en un mensaje que he mandado a la prensa hoy:

Dear Sirs,

On the eve of Jaime Caruana’s speech at the 7th Annual Supervision Conference in London tomorrow I would like to point out that Spain’s Central Bank, of which he is governor, is currently implicated in a banking scandal that has left 70,000 families on the verge of losing their life’s savings as a result of the Central Bank’s failure to adequately perform its supervisory role.

Eurobank del Mediterráneo collapsed in August of this year having been allowed to continue operating as a savings bank in spite of repeated warnings over a period of 4 years from the Central Bank over its highly irregular activities . These warnings were kept from the public domain, such that even in the very month of its closure members of the public who enquired about the stability of the bank were informed that it was as stable as any other. Despite these discrete warnings issued by the Bank of Spain to Eurobank, no regulatory intervention was undertaken over these 4 years, indeed Eurobank was permitted to offer a 3 month deposit at 7% (the highest in the Spanish market) which it continued to contract to the public until the very day of its cessation of activities.

Since that date 70,000 families have been left without their life’s savings, having been able to recuperate only the maximum of 20,000 euros covered by the Guarantee Fund, and without any firm indication as to whether they will ever regain any part of the lost balance.

None of the families that placed their savings and their faith in Eurobank were ‘investors’ prepared to accept any kind of risk, they were ‘depositors’ looking for a fixed term return on their money. To date the Bank of Spain has only conceded that IF, following the liquidation of the bank, there remain sufficient funds to cover the deposits then these will be paid back over the next three YEARS. This leaves most of the depositors without the savings that they were planning recuperate after no longer than 3 months.

In the wake of these broken plans and shattered dreams, Caruana will appear as guest speaker at the Annual Supervision Conference to be held in London tomorrow, this is a bold move in the light of the chaos that he leaves behind him in Spain.

If this should reach you in time to be able to put this issue to him at the conference I think it would help to set the context for his speech and raise the alarm in Europe that, as long as Caruana’s style of supervision prevails then it is not only investors that are putting their money at risk, but all of us who once trusted in the security of the banking system.

Acabo de enviar mails a UK para que el inclito Caruana¨quede en evidencia delante de sus colegas y que sepan que clase de elemento tenemos en este pais Que la intervencion de sus colaboradores fue un fracaso. y que todo el mundo lo sabia y nadie hacia nada !!un poco sospechoso este asunto ¡¡¡Pues haber si los ingleses te dicen lo que no te gustaria oir ¡¡¡Que te aproveche el Roast beef de vaca loca¡¡¡
