For more than 45 years, IDP has been helping students and their families find the right fit for their dream of higher education.

FOR over 25 years, IDP Education Malaysia has offered comprehensive counselling services for students looking to study in Australia, as information from Australian Education International has stated that more Malaysian students are choosing to study in Australia than any other overseas location.

As the demand in Malaysia for overseas higher education maintains a strong foothold with the country's consistent economic growth being coupled with parents' desire for their children to pursue an education outside of the country.

However, the recent rise in affordable higher education programmes here in Malaysia has parents wondering whether there are opportunities that still provide the best return on investment when studying abroad.

This dilemma is filled by Australian universities, as they are widely known for excellent teaching skills and research facilities, whilst leading the world in innovation and quality in the country's approach to vocational education and training.

Graduates that have studied overseas often demonstrate the necessary creative, innovative and independent thinking attributes that are imperative for development and career path, as the exposure grooms students to work hard and be independent in order to be successful; these are just the sort of attributes employers look for in an employee.

At IDP Education Malaysia, trained and experienced counsellors work around the clock to assist students throughout their journey in exploring education opportunities present in Australia. This goes beyond a counsellor merely matching a prospective student's choice of study with a suitable institution.

Being at the forefront of the education industry, IDP has invested in technology to help Malaysian students find the very best of institutions to study in. With access to exclusive innovative software, students will obtain up-to-date information on the institution of their choice.

In October, IDP Education Malaysia will be hosting the IDP Australia Education Exhibition from Oct 10 to 18 in seven major cities; Kuala Lumpur, Subang Jaya, Penang, Ipoh, Johor Baru, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.

With over 20 prestigious universities and institutions participating in this exhibition, it will be a great opportunity for students and their parents to meet with IDP Malaysia's trained Australian counsellors and representatives to discuss the options best suited for their higher education.

Students can move through flexible study pathways to gain the right balance of practical skills and theoretical knowledge for their future careers. These education providers have worked together to create a well-established system that assists students in moving easily from one level to the next. These stringent quality standards are overseen by the Australian government, as they ensure that graduates return home to begin their careers more "job-ready" than their counterparts.

An opportunity not to be missed for students hoping to commence their Australian study aspirations for the February 2018 intake, students who want to apply on the spot are to bring along the required documents and certificates to the exhibition.

Attendance at the exhibition is free and to ensure attendees can see the institution of their choice, it is important to pre-register online to redeem interesting prizes during the event.

This year, there will be seminars held in Kuala Lumpur and Penang by prominent universities. These seminars will be equipped with interesting topics of discussions that will be useful for students to explore education opportunities in Australia. Speakers from these universities will cover topics from Medicine & Pharmacy, Architecture & Design, and Business to Engineering, just to name a few in these seminars.

Canada increasingly attractive to global students – IDP

Canada has come out on top of a new IDP research paper on global study destinations, due to its safe environment and government policies which are seen as warm and welcoming.

About Patrick Atack
Patrick Atack is a multi-platform journalist, with experience working internationally for Euronews TV. Originally from the UK, he studied abroad in Oregon and he holds a Master’s in International Journalism from City University London. He's also a passionate sports fan. From football to road cycling, if there’s a game on, he probably has some clue who’s winning.

The rise of Canada was the main reason that both Australia and New Zealand lost out

IDP’s Student Buyer Behaviour research looked at the top five English-speaking destination countries, and examined how 4,200 mobile students rated a range of the nations’ drivers, including safety, affordability, education quality, and graduate employability.

Canada is highlighted in the report as a destination experiencing momentum in the global study market, while the US lost out in regard to safety, affordability, visa requirements, and graduate employment opportunities.

“We haven’t changed too much. Canada’s always been a safe and clean destination”

The UK was not hit as hard as some may expect by the choice to leave the European Union, but the research does indicate that it is seen as a less safe study travel destination in 2017.

The research, now in its sixth iteration, was released by IDP Education’s head of research Lyndell Jacka at the Australian International Education Conference in Hobart.

It reveals that although Australian affordability remains a concern to some students, the rise of Canada was the main reason that both Australia and New Zealand lost out to some extent.

As far as student motivations are concerned, the research breaks the mobile student population down into three main categories. For Indian and Indonesian students, course content quality and post-study work opportunities were priorities.

However, for Vietnamese and Malaysian students, affordability and self-discovery ranked most highly.

On the other hand, Jacka points out that Chinese students are motivated by the reputation and quality of the institution they wish to study at.

“When we explored the number one reason why they chose to study abroad, one in ten Chinese students said ‘study at a high-ranked university’,” she said.

Wendy Luther is the CEO of EduNova, a cooperative effort from institutions and Nova Scotian government to boost the profile of the eastern Canadian province as an education destination.

Luther told The PIE News that Canada’s gain can really be attributed to their continuing message of openness and changes in its neighbour’s demeanour.

“We haven’t changed too much. Canada’s always been a safe and clean destination,” she said.

She pointed out that instead of Canada moving to capitalise on globals events that may make nations like the US or the UK less attractive to international students, EduNova and the Canadian government are taking a consistent approach to marketing and recruitment. And they are feeling the effects.

“We’re going out with the same message… and the students are more respective to [our] message,” Luther said.

But changes to citizenship and employment pathways have had an effect too.

“[Canadian] pathways are becoming more open,” Luther observed. “Last November the rules changed, making more points available for international students. This is not the same approach as what’s happening in the UK and US.”

IDP Philippines opens it Baguio nook at Calle Uno.

IDP Philippines, the local office of international education services firm IDP Education, brings international education opportunities closer to the north. It opened its Baguio nook recently at Calle Uno, in Quezon Hill, Baguio City.

With their new office, students and parents who are interested in getting education placement advice no longer need to travel all the way to Manila in order to do so. The office provides access to university brochures from different universities in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Schedule An Appointment With IDP Education Counsellors

Through the Baguio office, students can browse through the program brochures if they do not have an institution in mind. They can also schedule online consultations with IDP’s trained education counsellors through the IDP laptop available.

Counsellors are assigned specific countries, except for the senior counsellors who cover all five countries. Each counsellor is knowledgeable about the country’s requirements and will help assess what is the best program for a potential student. This also depends on the student’s qualifications, career goals and budget.

IDP services are free of charge and it usually starts with assistance in fulfilling course applications, up to assistance in visa applications and even pre-departure orientations. According to one of its education counsellors, IDP has a high approval rating for its applicants, ranging from 95 to 97 percent.

Sign Up For IELTS

IDP Education co-owns the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), one of the world’s most popular English language proficiency test. Signing up for an IELTS exam can be done through the Baguio office. If you sign up via IDP, you get a 30-day free access to IELTS preparation through their online portal.

The IDP Baguio Nook is located at Calle Uno Co-Working Space, First Road near Naguilian Road, Quezon Hill, Baguio City.

Why this analyst thinks IDP Education is a buy

Carin Pickworth | March 20, 2018 |  More on:  IEL

Shares in international student placement provider  Idp Education Ltd  (ASX: IEL) were on the slide at the time of writing, down 0.8% to $7.42, but the share price has been on a definitive up in the last year, with a 52-week low of just $4.20.

IDP Education owns and operates English language schools in South East Asia and organises global educational events and conferences.

Medallion Financial Group analyst Michael Wayne has placed a buy recommendation on the stock, after IDP booked 28% growth for the first-half of 2018 from the previous corresponding period.

Wayne said the company had “understated pricing power” supported by better-than-expected margin growth, with its placement services business delivering 46% growth in the first-half.

IDP Education has a $1.87 billion market capitalisation with a “multi-destination” strategy driving its growth and increased volumes to Canada and the UK being the highlight.

Physically IDP has now expanded to a network of more than 100 offices with India, New Zealand and Nepal on the list as growth regions.

If Wayne is right this is certainly a stock to watch as it embarks on a digital transformation and builds upon its solid foundation to improve its outcomes on a global scale.
